10 Workwear Essentials

10 Workwear Essentials

Hey! Thanks for stopping by. Lately, I've been working on revamping my closet and ensuring I have all of the essentials, especially for my work wardrobe. After cleaning out my closet, I discovered there are ten staple items every modern working woman should have in her closet. These items are the foundation of a well-dressed and chic working woman's wardrobe. Having these pieces will contribute to your readiness for an interview, meetings with clients, after-work happy hour, or your daily 9-5 grind.

Check out below what I think the essential pieces are and let me know if you agree or disagree.

  1. Tailored Suit

I love a great suit! I think it is the simplest way to make any woman look professional and chic. My favorite places to find great suits are Zara, Topshop, H&M, and Mango. Tailoring your suit to fit like a glove is also an essential step to finding the perfect suit. Sleeve and pant lengths are important to give any suit you select that polished look. I like these two options here & here

  2. LBD

Every woman should have a little black dress in her closet for two reasons. One, everyone looks great in black, and two, it is so versatile. You can rock a great LBD to a meeting with simple accessories for a classic ensemble or when you're running late. The LBD is a quick fashion forward solution when you want a pulled together look with one piece. The neckline, cut, fit and fabric are essential for selecting the perfect LBD. I love this one from Ann Taylor.

  3. Nude and Black Heels

These two pairs of heels go with everything! I'm 5'9 and don't mind being the tallest person in the room (lol), but think 2-3 inches as the appropriate height for work. It would be best to choose a height you feel comfortable walking in. I recommend purchasing a high-quality pair of heels. Currently, I have my eye on these Jimmy Choo. Although they are pricey, the comfort level and style are worth the cost.

  4. White Button-Down and Blouses

My parents always told me to have a great white button-down shirt in my closet. I'm still searching for the perfect one and probably need to stop being frugal in purchasing the ideal one. I love a crisp, white button-down and blouses in bold colors because you can dress them up and down. Pair them with a tailored suit, trousers, and heels for a chic business professional look, or with a great pair of jeans and mules for a look that's ready for date night or drinks after work. Linen, cotton, and silk are all great fabric options for your blouse selection.

  5. Blazer

Nothing says "boss woman" than a great blazer. I think black, navy, and beige satisfy your go with everything but also love a statement blazer. You can wear a blazer over a dress with tall boots or tie a cute belt around it with a pair of slim pants, turtle neck, and heels. I found great options here & here

  6. Structured Bag

I recommend purchasing a work bag that is durable, versatile, and able to hold all your belongings. A black or brown bag will go with the majority of your wardrobe, but I think a fun statement bag can elevate an outfit. I'm in the hunt for faux fur or crocodile skin bag! Little known fashion fact: Bold colors like yellow and green can add a splash of color, but still play the role as a neutral.

  7. Dresses

Dresses are my go-to items for work. I love patterned dresses or dresses in bright colors like orange and pink. Maxi or midi - depending on the event make dresses a "no brainer" for those busy days during the week. You don't have to think about anything. Throw the dress on, pair it with heels, flats or boots, add accessories, and you are ready to go. Who doesn't love simplicity?

  8. Black Trousers

I finally found the perfect pair of black trousers. I often have trouble finding pants that are long enough and fit my waist. I love trousers because you can wear them with shirts, blouses, sweaters, and blazers and look like you are ready to handle business. If you are looking for a casual look, wear a fun graphic tee with an oversized blazer and booties or tennis shoes (depending on your work environment). Looking to dress them up? Pair them with a silk blouse, nude or black heels, and a structured bag. I found the perfect pair from Theory in Nordstrom.

  9. Classic Jewelry

Classic jewelry: gold or silver medium sized hoops (the size of a silver dollar coin) and studs, a watch, and a dainty necklace. Period.

  10. Confidence

Feel confident with what you are wearing. Dressing up makes me feel good. I always feel my best when I look my best. Be Confident! You are smart and capable. God has equipped you with everything you need to be successful. Now you can look great while being purposeful, impactful, and a girl boss!

I hope these essential pieces help you develop a wardrobe that is ready for any occasion. Please comment if you have additional staples for work, and if you find this information helpful.

Sincerely,

Taylor
