One Month into Motherhood

One Month into Motherhood

Hey family! Thanks again for stopping by. Today we are talking about motherhood. As of September 5, 2021, I've been a mother for one month! Our daughter, Mackenzie Renee Grant, arrived safely and soundly on August 5, 2021. She is AMAZING! The love a parent has for her child is indescribable. Mackenzie brings so much joy to our lives. I cannot wait to witness her greatness and see the type of person she grows up to be. Since we are one month in, I wanted to take the time to reflect on my motherhood journey thus far and to document all of the ups and downs and lessons I learned along the way. I can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute of motherhood. From pregnancy through delivery, this has been a joyous experience. I am blessed to have had a good pregnancy and delivery with very few complications. After delivering Mackenzie, I have so much more respect for women. We are superheroes. How our bodies can transform and adapt to create life is miraculous. I've found a new strength in motherhood. I genuinely believe I can conquer any and everything after bringing life into this world. In addition to my newfound strength, I also have a deeper appreciation for grace. Grace is a requirement for moms. We need grace for the late-night feedings, the tears, wailing, and sleep deprivation. It has taken me a while to appreciate the concept of grace as a new mom. I was living off a "pregnancy high" after having such a wonderful delivery and doing pretty well with feeding and taking care of Mackenzie for the few days we were in the hospital. When we got home, everything was different. There was no around-the-clock nursing care, just me, Chris, Franklin, and a new human being. I had a moment where I thought I could not do this. It was after one of those late-night feedings. Mackenzie was struggling to latch, and breastfeeding was painful. Thankfully, I had Chris to support and encourage me and breastfeeding has improved tremendously.

To my new moms, seasoned moms, and moms-to-be, let's remember to give ourselves grace. Although women are powerful and can do anything, we do not need to do everything ourselves. Ask for help! Asking for help has been the biggest lesson I've learned thus far. I greatly appreciate my tribe. Our parents, siblings, and extended family all live close by and have been rockstars in helping us tackle parenthood. Not only are they available to help, they genuinely want to support us out of love for me, Chris, Franklin, and Mackenzie. It is essential to have a strong support system rooted in love, compassion, and grace. I cannot thank our families enough for their support, whether through advice, encouragement, or watching Mackenzie so Chris and I can get a two-hour nap.

As I tackle motherhood, I plan to use Poised as a platform to document this journey. I would love to create a community where moms and moms-to-be can receive advice about parenting and share their experiences with other parents. There is no one way to parent, and I feel we can all learn from each other.
